Handsworth was a part of Staffordshire until 1911 when it was removed to the administrative control of Birmingham, Warwickshire.

1911-14

Great Barr Hall estate sold to Walsall and West Bromwich Guardians of the Poor and estate developed as a home for "progressive treatment of the mentally defective".
